One Saturday, I missed our regular 6 a.m. prayer at church, but just because I missed prayer doesn't mean God missed me. I’m an author of two devotionals and on most weekends I try to sell at vending events. When leaving for the first event, I turned on my GPS because I had never been to that particular destination. After leaving home I started to question why the GPS was taking me in a certain direction. I knew the way to the highway, I really didn’t need to follow the Global Positioning System(GPS) for this part of the trip, but as I sat at the light I contemplated going a different way. Then, I heard God say in my spirit, “this is what you do to me. I tell you to do something different and unfamiliar and you automatically assume it’s not me and that you already know the way”. He reminded me that I gave Him control of my life when I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior, but when He tries to direct my path, I tend to override Him to go my own way. All I could say was, oh wow! I was floored at this realization.
As I continued driving on the expressway and started passing multiple exits, he reminded me that I had taken detours and exits that he never intended for me to take because I already thought I knew the way. I began reflecting on all of the unnecessary side journeys I had taken in my life. One area that I reflected on was my college journey. I started college in 1981 and didn’t graduate until 1993. During this time I joined the military and went on all types of excursions. I had been traveling on my own GPS (my will), instead of on God’s Protection System (GPS). Thankfully God’s Protection System will always bring us to our destination at the appropriate time. My prayer is that not only I stay on God’s Protection System, but that you stay on it as well.
By the way I did go the way that the GPS directed me. . .this time!
God is always speaking with you. “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,” Job 33:14-16 KJV
Although we get out of God’s Protection System (GPS) He is faithful to see us through. “Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.” Psalms 40:11 KJV
Stay on God’s path. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
By doing these things…over time, I’ve been learning how to incorporate Christ into every area of my life.
Below are two books that God has inspired me to write. "The Flip Side" and "Blinded By Sight: The Heart Matters" both available now.
So… what’s this book about?
“The Flip Side” depicts the possible feelings and emotions of lesser-known Biblical characters as they navigated their lives in the shadows of the more popular characters in the Bible. While the Bible gives us snippets of their stories, we are usually left in the dark about their true motives, desires, and thoughts concerning the situations they are in. However, one certainty is that despite how little we know about these characters, they were often the catalysts to pivotal moments in the main characters’ lives.
So… what’s this book about?
Join me on a journey of self-discovery. “Blinded by Sight - The Heart Matters” is a compilation of short biblical devotions. These stories are not conclusive. They are depictions of how God is revealing my heart to me.
My prayer is, Lord, make it real for me, show me your heart, show me my heart, and give me the wisdom to change what hinders my relationship with you. I am learning that my perception is my biggest obstacle it affects my mind, what I think, and how I process my experiences. What I have experienced in my mind is expressed through my feelings and these experiences dictate my choices either consciously or subconsciously.
This devotional will allow you to explore and evaluate your past and present situations that have hindered you from seeing the heart of the matter. Simply put, look at the heart – it does matter. Your future depends on it!
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4
