Recently I accompanied my mom to the cardiologist for an appointment. She had been complaining about a sore spot on her chest, so they sent her for an evaluation, and this was her follow-up appointment to receive the results. Now, I don’t have anything against doctors, I wanted to be one (but that’s another devotional). When the cardiologist came into the room, he was very professional and mannerable. Once he started verifying information in her chart, he cursed. He asked a few more questions, then he cursed again. Then he said to my mother, "Do you still smoke?" My mother said yes. He asked, how long have you been smoking? My mother started calculating, but I chimed in and said approximately 70 years.
The Cardiologist then asked, and you only have diabetes? She answered yes. He cursed again and said, all your numbers look good, your stress test was great, your cholesterol is excellent, your heart is strong, and whatever is going on it’s not your heart. He stated you don’t deserve this because of your smoking, and I just looked at him. He stated it again and I said only God determines what someone deserves. He shook his head and said you have great genetics. I said huh, we have a great God. My mom will be 85 in a few days. He wished my mom a Happy Birthday and told her he would see her in a year.
The devotionals "Blinded By Sight: The Heart Matters" and "The Flip Side" were created out of a desire that God placed in my heart. Have faith in who you believe in. God is in control.
Some steps I have continually taken are:
Be a ready and willing witness. “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Witness to like believers. “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10
Praise God no matter the situation. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18”
By doing these things…over time, I’ve been learning how to incorporate Christ into every area of my life.
Below are two books that God has inspired me to write. "The Flip Side" and "Blinded By Sight: The Heart Matters" both available now.
So… what’s this book about?
“The Flip Side” depicts the possible feelings and emotions of lesser-known Biblical characters as they navigated their lives in the shadows of the more popular characters in the Bible. While the Bible gives us snippets of their stories, we are usually left in the dark about their true motives, desires, and thoughts concerning the situations they are in. However, one certainty is that despite how little we know about these characters, they were often the catalysts to pivotal moments in the main characters’ lives.
So… what’s this book about?
Join me on a journey of self-discovery. “Blinded by Sight - The Heart Matters” is a compilation of short biblical devotions. These stories are not conclusive. They are depictions of how God is revealing my heart to me.
My prayer is, Lord, make it real for me, show me your heart, show me my heart, and give me the wisdom to change what hinders my relationship with you. I am learning that my perception is my biggest obstacle it affects my mind, what I think, and how I process my experiences. What I have experienced in my mind is expressed through my feelings and these experiences dictate my choices either consciously or subconsciously.
This devotional will allow you to explore and evaluate your past and present situations that have hindered you from seeing the heart of the matter. Simply put, look at the heart – it does matter. Your future depends on it!
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4
