Obedience and Blessings: Intertwining Your Faith with Everyday Life

Luke 5:4-10 MSG - When he finished teaching, he said to Simon, “Push out into deep water and let your nets out for a catch.” Simon said, “Master, we’ve been fishing hard all night and haven’t caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I’ll let out the nets.” It was no sooner said than done—a huge haul of fish, straining the nets past capacity. They waved to their partners in the other boat to come help them. They filled both boats, nearly swamping them with the catch. Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell to his knees before Jesus. “Master, leave. I’m a sinner and can’t handle this holiness. Leave me to myself.” When they pulled in that catch of fish, awe overwhelmed Simon and everyone with him. It was the same with James and John, Zebedee’s sons, coworkers with Simon.

Have you been doing all that you can with your human strength? Are you a master in your field of expertise? Do you know what it's going to take to get the job done? Have you ever felt like if it doesn’t work you don’t know what else to do? I’ve felt like this numerous times. I felt just like Simon when he told Jesus, “we’ve been fishing hard all night and haven’t caught even a minnow.” Simon was an expert in his field. He had a fishing company. He and his partners knew when and how to catch fish. They had worked hard all night without any results. Then Jesus came along and instructed them to go back out and when they obeyed, they had an overabundance of fish. Out of respect he went back out and dropped the net. In our lives, Jesus also instructs us to go back and do it again and he then blesses us due to our obedience. How many blessings have you missed because you’re so dependent on your own mind and set in your own way that you can’t hear or see what He’s telling you to do? Are you respectful when it’s His will? I’m not always respectful. Sometimes, I’m not sure if it’s God or my own desires.

What I do know, is that God will never leave me nor forsake me. If I miss the mark, and my heart is pure, He will faithfully lead me in the right direction. If I miss the mark and my heart isn’t pure, he’ll chasten me, and still lead me in the right direction. Either way, it’s a win-win for me. Thank you Daddy for your love.

  • The Lord will always be with. “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

  • The Lord will correct me when I’m going down the wrong road. “For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” Proverbs 3:12

  • Be obedient to the Lord. “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:" Isaiah 1:19

By doing these things…over time, I’ve been learning how to incorporate Christ into every area of my life.

Below are two books that God has inspired me to write. "The Flip Side" and "Blinded By Sight: The Heart Matters" both available now.

So… what’s this book about?

“The Flip Side” depicts the possible feelings and emotions of lesser-known Biblical characters as they navigated their lives in the shadows of the more popular characters in the Bible. While the Bible gives us snippets of their stories, we are usually left in the dark about their true motives, desires, and thoughts concerning the situations they are in. However, one certainty is that despite how little we know about these characters, they were often the catalysts to pivotal moments in the main characters’ lives.

So… what’s this book about?

Join me on a journey of self-discovery. “Blinded by Sight - The Heart Matters” is a compilation of short biblical devotions. These stories are not conclusive. They are depictions of how God is revealing my heart to me.

My prayer is, Lord, make it real for me, show me your heart, show me my heart, and give me the wisdom to change what hinders my relationship with you. I am learning that my perception is my biggest obstacle it affects my mind, what I think, and how I process my experiences. What I have experienced in my mind is expressed through my feelings and these experiences dictate my choices either consciously or subconsciously.

This devotional will allow you to explore and evaluate your past and present situations that have hindered you from seeing the heart of the matter. Simply put, look at the heart – it does matter. Your future depends on it!

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4
